The opening up of the Darjeeling Hills had been one of the most awaited news among the travel enthusiasts in this new normal world of COVID-19. Finally, this new announcement concerning the travel sector has raised the confidence and excitement level of the travellers and has boosted the spirits of the travel operators, who have long been struggling with their business in this period of crisis.
This big announcement has come after the transporters, hotel owners, and travel trade representatives organized a meeting for deciding the proceedings of the tourism sector in this new normal environment and finally received a green signal from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA). The reopening of Darjeeling will abide by all the safety norms and guidelines prescribed for COVID-19.
Looking back, hotels in Dooars and Darjeeling opened up for tourists on 1st July, but were hurriedly shut down again by the GTA due to the hike in the number of Coronavirus positive cases and protests from the locals, fearing the transmission of the deadly viral disease.
