The Indian state of Sikkim has plans to start welcoming tourists from the month of October. Making for a major part of the revenue of the state, tourism is hit drastically by the pandemic. Hence, in an attempt to revive its tourism sector, Sikkim is now busy in promoting itself as a safe destination for travelling.

The tourism department of Sikkim recently discussed with the stakeholders an effective plan to reopen the industry and a draft known as ‘Reopening of State Tourism’ was proposed. The draft read that keeping the tourism sector closed is not something that Sikkim can afford to do any longer and although the opening up of tourist activities increases the chances of the spread of the virus, the state will make sure that superior standards of safety procedures are followed.

The draft has enlisted individual sets of norms that are expected to be followed by the tourists, accommodation facilities, and tour operators & travel agents. It also conveys how the health department can help in this and what necessities the tourism department of the state must enable.

The opening up of tourist activities in Sikkim with all the safety regulations in place is surely a great opportunity for the travel operators to give a boost to their business. This much-awaited announcement is also elating for the travel enthusiasts, who are desperately craving to pack for their post-COVID holiday to a calm, beautiful, and serene destinations like Sikkim.
